I
woke up this morning and the blisters on my feet were still pretty tender. I really don't know what I did differently on that reverse walk , but I will be reminded to bring my camera for at least a few days every time I take a step.
My guide book assured me that the 20
mile hike I had ahead of me looked pretty much like the 40 miles I had just
covered. It also suggested that this might be good time to
spend 1.5 Euro on a bus ticket and enjoy a greater portion of the day in the
city of Leon. (Population 140,000). I took this as another nudge from the Lord and stepped on the bus at
9:00 a.m. enjoyed watching the 20 miles of wheat fields as we traveled arriving in Leon 45 minutes later. By 10:30 a.m. I was sitting with a cup of coffee at a cute little outdoor cafe. At 11:00 I had found a room, dropped off my backpack and made it to the first tourist opening of the cathedral by 11:30 a.m.
I came back to my cozy little room in Leon's smallest but charming hotel and had a little siesta and then went out to the plaza. I love the hustle and bustle of the city. For some reason, I seem to realize that I am needed and come to the rescue of a young German girl (20-23) who was traveling in by herself as well. She was having a devil of a time getting her bank card to work and just seemed to need a big sister to share her frustrations. We called her bank in Germany and they assured her that it would be working in short order. The cathedrals (two of them) are absolutely phenomenal, there is so much stained glass and it is impossible to do justice to the beautiful windows with my iphone.
By the time I had finished looking over both these churches full of beautiful artwork , Nancy joined me for the Gaudi Museum. Gaudi and Pablo Picasso are the two most famous artists in Spain.

Gaudi is the most important architect of the Catalonian art nouveau with most of his work done in Barcelona.

I it 9:00 p.m. and it is still very hot, maybe a little gelato before I go up to my room.
I have to string my blister ( It lets the sore drain all night) hopefully it will be dry by morning when I am back on the trail again.

Grandma C - Thank you Leischen and Lark for letting us share your adventures. I am so glad you took a bus and did not make matters worse by walking on or letting your shoes rub on those blisters
Mike Yes it is hard to take a picture of those buildings. I have never heard of putting a string in your blister. Tricks to everything. I would still think it to be tender walking.
