Walking Through The Wheat Fields To Los Arcos

Leischen sent a picture this morning saying that she had reached her days destination.   "It was a nice walk today, mostly flat with lots and lots of wheat fields."

"It is a small town with only a couple streets deep.  It is built in normal old Spanish style 3-4 story buildings, with a nice center of town.

There is a nice Albergue here.  It is not a municipal one but this one only has six beds in a room.   There are four of us already.  I am less fond of the municipal hostels because they are very noisy.  I was awake at 4:30 a.m. because our stay last night didn't allow for much sleep.

Albergue - meaning shelter, refuge or hostel
The picture to your left is just a sample of a municipal Albergue.   There are many, many beds all in one room.     Some are small and a privately owned Hostel.   ( These pictures just give you an idea of what they look like - each one varies with some being 100's of years old.)

Not everyone can stay at an Albergue.  They are designed for pilgrims and are generally only a few Euro's per night.   (Unless you are ill, you are only allowed to stay one night)   They are often run by volunteers and  open each evening  at around 4:00 to about 10:00p.m. and depending on the house rules, you can be locked out if you stay too late.   Many wake you at 6am so that you can be on your way.     You have to have a pilgrims passport (purchased at the beginning of  your trip) to qualify you to stay at an Albergue.

Let's talk about Food!!

Pincos ( tapas) are very good and the cured ham is great.  There have been a lot of sandwiches and fried foods.   Lots of fried eggs, and bread, bread, bread.   It is fine and in the bigger towns and the special meals it is much better.

Is there a travelers meal?  (reduced cost)
There is a pilgrims meal and in the past it has been good.   Just the last couple of towns ... very fried.

A Cathedral in Every Town
Los Arcos may be a small town but their Cathedral is huge!!   It is very ornate and nearly 1000 years old in parts.

The Walk in General
It is an amazing walk but incredibly hard.   I greatly underestimated how hard it has been.  But, amazing in its history, views and kindness... Beyond Amazing
